For Roosegaarde, windmills are a perfect example of Dutch innovation. Inspired by Kinderdijk (the traditional Dutch windmills from 1740), Roosegaarde wants to reconnect the modern windmills of today with our landscape whilst celebrating the beauty of green energy.
Developed software and tracking technology detect the windmill blades rotating at 280 km per hour and connect the blades with LED light. Visitors to the project could tune into the radio channel WINDLICHT 105.3 FM to hear the stories behind the artwork. WINDLICHT’s dancing lines of light attracted large audiences and created a place of wonder.
